Leeks

Taste: Leeks taste a bit like a lighter onion. They aren't as aromatic as onions, but they have a ton of flavour. They're sweeter and more delicate.

Nutritional Info:

  • Sulfur found in leeks may play an important role in support of our body's antioxidant and detox systems as well as the formation of our connective tissue
  • Leeks are an excellent source of vitamin K, manganese, vitamin B6, copper, iron, folate, and vitamin C
  • Contain important amounts of the flavonoid kaempferol, which help to promote cardiovascular health by protecting our blood vessel linings from damage

When to Look for Leeks: Leeks appear during the beginning of the summer - usually around the start of June.

Best Uses for Leeks: Leeks are incredibly tasty in soups. A popular pairing is with fresh potatoes! Try roasting them with your favourite veggies.

How to Store Leeks: Don't wash your leeks until they are ready to use. Keep them in an airtight plastic bag in the fridge.
