Red Plums
Taste: Red Plums, are a term we use for many varieties - Blood, Santa Rosa, Rick, Elephant Hearts, Black Amber. All are exceptionally juicy and sweet. These plums are clingstone, so it's best to just pop the whole stone in your mouth to get all the fibers off!
Nutritional Info:
Good source of vitamin K, vitamin C, copper, dietary fiber, and potassium
Plums have a low glycemic index value, which means eating them can help you control your blood sugar and reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes
Contain phenols, which are powerful antioxidants known to neutralize cell-damaging free radicals
When To Look For Plums: These beauties are usually available at the end of July and go through until the end of August.
Best Uses For Plums: The beautiful red/purple hues make Plums an eye-catching gourmet garnish and yummy snack. They don’t always slice neatly due to the fibers and excess juice, so are best used for sauces or salads where they don’t need to hold their shape. Try them caramelized with cardamom and dribbled over vanilla ice cream, or roughly chopped as a bright addition to balsamic vinaigrette with a dash of pepper.
